One of my girlfriends has just given birth to an adorable baby boy, and I couldn’t be happier for her! To help celebrate, I’m sending she and her husband a super-duper new-parent postpartum recovery survival kit, including all sorts of essentials – like pain medicine, 5-hour ENERGY® shots, snacks, headbands and much more!

She and I already made a bunch of padsicles back when I visited her last month, so I know her freezer is stocked and ready. If you still haven’t made padiscles and are expecting – head on over to this blog post ASAP and make yourself some!

As fabulous as those first weeks are with your newborn as a new mom, there is also a war zone between your legs. Even if you have a c-section, new moms go through the most epic of periods.

So to help with the mess, pain, and general crankiness, either make yourself or ask a friend to gather the following supplies.

Pick up some 5-hour ENERGY® shots at Walgreens. Both parents and their guests will thank you! 5-hour ENERGY® shots have a ton of B-vitamins, amino acids and essential nutrients. There’s zero sugar, carbs or herbal stimulants, has only 4 calories, and contains caffine comparable to a cup of coffee. Bo-yah!

Next, pick up some sustenance. My picks are their favorite candy, snacks (mine are double stuffed Oreos), and coconut water. I recommend the lemonade flavored Vita-Coco – which believe it or not – my girlfriend can not find ANYWHERE! My Walgreens had it, and they were on sale, so I scooped some up and threw it in the box.

It’s imperative that you grab the essential items to repair to mend the nether-region.

In addition to Dermaplast, Motrin and Tylenol, I’d also recommend witch hazel pads (often called Tucks Pads), hemmeroid creme or wipes, and an inflatable donut.

New mom is super hero, seriously, she just gave birth to a human. That being said, even super heroes need to take a little break. New moms need to allow themselves some R&R by taking their pain medicine, around the clock, for as long as her doctor instructed.

The other end.

Good lord, just when you thought birth couldn’t get anymore un-glamerous, you realize you have to visit the loo and have your first bowel movement. To many new moms, this is pretty much like giving birth again.

Save the new moms and get stool softeners and laxatives. I took these for a week after birth, and never had a negative experience on The John.

If you’re feeling like adding something fun and pretty to the postpartum recovery kit, add some lip gloss and headbands. New moms often don’t get to shower as frequently as they’d like, and headbands will keep their hair off of their face.

I’d also recommend sending them a pair of Dear Kates Underwear in case new mom ends up having some urinary incontinence.

After all of the items are assembled in a box, don’t forget to add a cute “welcome to the world” baby card! After that, you are ready to head to the post office and send off the postpartum recovery kit full of lovin!

What other items would you add to this postpartum recovery kit?
