I was glancing through a “Top 10 Gift Ideas for 2 year olds” blog post the other day, when I asked my son what he wanted for Christmas. I expected him to say something about Thomas the Train, Dragons, or books.
Instead he said he wanted a candy cane on Christmas. For he believes that on Christmas, everyone gets candy canes.
He did not mention presents at all.
It was then that I realized that this may be the last year that my son doesn’t have to have a busy holiday season. He just wants candy canes, his friends and family….and I thought that was the smartest thing I heard all season long.
To say that this season has been “busy” would be an understatement.
Seriously, does anyone else feel this way? It’s like December should have 90 days instead of 31 just to be able to fit everything in.
Combine the racing speed of this month, and the abnormally warm temperatures here in Rhode Island, and I can officially say that I have not really felt like it’s really the Christmas Season yet.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m no grinch, but I’m just saying that I wish I was a little bit more present for “The Most Wonder Time” of the year.
I’ve been busy with various obligations instead of focusing on what really matters during this time of the year.
My loved ones.
Even though I haven’t mentioned it here on my blog, a close family member has fallen incredibly ill, and it weighs heavy on my immediate family. We don’t know if we will all be together this time next year, and I’m starting to deal with some grief. I can now personally understand why the holidays can sometimes be bittersweet.
So I’m taking a leave of absence on my blog and social media for the remainder of 2015.
As much as I love sharing and learning online, I need to be spending 100% of my time with my loved ones, in person, over the next couple of weeks.
I plan on being outdoors, making Christmas cookies with my son for the first time (without instagraming it), and spending long dinners together with my loved ones. I also hope to read at least one book.
I am planning on allowing myself to be bored.
Not bored on Facebook, or bored reading short gif filled humorous news articles.
I mean genuinely bored. Like stare off into space bored.
I won’t be posting online until sometime in the new year, but I promise I will return.
Heck, I love blogging and podcasting, it brings me tons of joy…but for everything there is a season.
Now it’s my turn to hibernate.
I wish you and yours a most loving and joyous holiday and New Year. May your hearts and bellies be full, and your ears full of laughter and merriment.
Talk soon, friends!
