Goldilocks was looking for something that was “just right”, and now, so are we.
What is up with baby hats? You’d think they would fit, I don’t know…a BABY?!? But no, that would just make too much sense.
My hubby and I have begun the most epic of epic searches. The search to find a baby hat that fits and stays on our tiny baby’s head. The last time it was measured, our Itty Bitty’s head was in the 47th percentile – so just about average. So why do all of these supposed baby hats fit so terribly?.
Some hats are too big.
Whereas other hats are too small
Next we are going to try some handmade hats. Hopefully they will fit “just right.”
Did any specific item of baby clothing give you difficulties?

This is just too funny because it's just oh, so true! I love the little gnome hats that just sit ON TOP of the head, not ON the head! My late Mom-in-law knitted the best little hats that had a little stretch to them, which made them JUST RIGHT. Oh, how I wish I had learned from her…
HA! We had that same Red Sox beanie cap and it was GIGANTIC on my son too!! By the time it fit him, he was almost 1 and a half…and didn't wear beanie caps anymore. The only hats that ever fit him well when he was a newborn were the knit caps we got from Women & Infants. Otherwise, hats were a super fail.
teehee! We never had the too big problem – my children have ginormous heads. My 4.5 year old's sunhat, sized 4-6X, won't make it through the summer. Insanity. Just wait – children's clothing sizes are RIDICULOUSLY inconsistent. It will drive you nuts for many years to come 😉
Out of dozens of little hats we had for our first born, only one from Baby Gap was perfect.
I'm like Michele – my kids both had giant heads, too, and the hats always popped off no matter what I did. We still experience this now and again with sun hats (and my kids are 6 and almost 2)!
Congratulations, Mary! SO cute and true! It's hats and socks that are perpetual problems! Hats are either over the eyes or popping off!
Haha I feel your pain!! We can't find hats to fit our one year old! She has a TINY little head! (My husband and I can both wear youth sized hats, so it's to be expected) I'd LOVE to find a tiny Red Sox hat for her, but alas, even the newborn ones are too big! OMG. Hats are a mess in this house. Due to Addie's large head, we have to shop in the toddler/youth section, but still in NB or 3 months for clothes. I think we need to be warned that NOTHING will fit the way they say in the baby catalogs… just like we never look like the models in J. Crew or Vicky's!
For some reason, our issue isn't hats but SOCKS! I would always put two socks on my babies' feet, like a normal person, and by the time I got to the car or the park or whatever, the little bean was surely missing one of the socks! And now that my kids are 4 and 2, we have no socks that match in our house. Seriously. Good luck with finding the right hat! You'll probably find it… just in time for a growth spurt. (doh!) 🙂
I so feel your pain! NO hats fit Zane. She has a big head and I can't find anything that remotely fits him! If you find something, let me know!!!
