Ever wonder how to cover up dark circles or conceal under eye circles? I’ve been there friend. I’m pretty sure I haven’t sleep well in about five years – thanks to pregnancy or being a mom of two littles. Over time I’ve learned a few tricks to cover dark circles, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
Tip 1: Find an eye serum that works best for your eyes.
Tip 2: Hydrate your skin, especially under your eyes. This skin is thinner than most areas and needs to be well cared for. I like to use the Time Correcting Night Cream at night and Hydrating Day Cream during the Day.
Tip 3: Use a quality concealer, preferably in a shade one to two shades lighter than your skin tone. This will help brighten under your eyes. Use this in a triangle shape under your eyes, rather than a half moon. You can see the shape below in the photo.
Tip 4: Use a damp blending bud (I linked my favorite one!), either dampened with water, or even use setting spray for extra hold. I prefer to use a damp blending bud topped off with a touch of setting spray. This helps the makeup not settle into fine lines.
Tip 5: To help diffuse the look of physical bags, apply a generous amount of translucent setting powder onto the areas that you put concealer. This process is called “baking” or “cooking.” This allows the heat from your face to set your concealer and foundation. After 5 minutes or so, you can dust off the extra powder with a brush. As a result, you will be left with a creaseless, flawless finish.
(I will be doing a tutorial soon just on the baking technique.)
Tip 6: Distract with color and structure elsewhere. Pump up your blush a tad, being sure to avoid your under eye area. Make sure your eyebrows are clean and defined. Think about adding a bit of color to your lips as well!
Finally, it may not always be the easiest thing to cover up dark circles under your eyes. Sometimes you may have them because of genetics, or for medical reasons. What I do recommend is making sure you have plenty of water intake, try to get more sleep in addition to always wear sunscreen on your face.
Doing these three things will not only help your under eye dark circles, but your health overall! Talk about a win win!
